Food giant Nestle has stated that there were no issues with Maggi noodles and that the company was working to ensure that the reported issues with the noodles in India will be resolved soon.
Nestle Global Chief Executive Paul Baleckstaed that the company released their products to the market after stringent tests to their products. He added that the company was investigating the issue of high levels of MSG in their products and once a proper investigation has been conducted to the issue, they would release additional information to the public.
The issues have been reported in the “Maggi Oats Masala Noodles with Tastemaker” range of Maggi noodles.
The company added that the company conducts stringent tests on all stages of production, from their raw materials to the final packaged item delivered to the shops. As such, the company added that the products were to the standards followed by the company.
A statement released by the company on Friday stated that the Maggi noodles were safe and quality products.
Dehli and Gujrat states have banned the product. No other state has instated a ban of the product.
Nestle Lanka, the largest exporter of Nestle products to Maldives, reported to Miadhu that Maggi noodles had faced difficulties in penetrating the market, due to the pricing strategy employed for the product.
Even though the price of Maggi noodles is higher than the brands available in the market, many Maldivian do consume the noodles and have reported positive feedback to the product.
Lily Shipping, the authorized distributor in Maldives for Maggi products, imported the last shipment of the products in 2014. Lily had opted to buy that shipment from Malaysia, rather than from India.
Mallaa Ahmed Nasir stated that Maggi was a higher quality noodles and therefore, more expensive. Therefore, he added that Lily had not imported the product in recent times. He stated that most of the noodle brands in the market are of a cheaper quality but cheaper and that this was the reason for the demand. As such, he added that the company has to instate more promotional activities to expand the brand locally.
Nestle is globally renowned for their products and due to that maintains strict standards for their products.
FDA had instated a temporary ban on Maggi noodles following the reports from India, even though no Maggi shipments from India had been brought to Maldives.
Maggi products in Singapore had been temporary halted for tests. However, this halt has been only made applicable for Maggi products originating from India.
