President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Qayyoom has stated that the Government will start negotiations with Jumhooree Party (JP) today.
He made the statement speaking in the ceremony held to welcome 25 additional recruits and five Councilors to ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) held yesterday in Muleeaage.
President Yameen stated that all preparations for the negotiations with JP has been finalized and that the negotiations will kick off today.
Tourism Minister Ahmed Adeeb, President’s Office Minister Mohamed Hussain Shareef, Housing Minister Mohamed Muizz and Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim will represent the Government in the negotiations.
JP Deputy Leader Ameen Ibrahim, Deputy Leader Ilham Ahmed, Kimbidhoo Constituency MP and JP PG Deputy Leader Abdullah Riyaz and Mathiveri Constituency MP Ahmed Hussain were chosen as representation from JP side.
Government had formally opened up negotiations with the opposition on the 18th of last month. Opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) had refused to take part in the negotiations citing that the Party would not participate in any negotiations without Party President Mohamed Nasheed.
