President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Qayyoom has stated that Maldives still remains as the freest nation for different political ideologies and political activities.
He made the statement speaking in the ceremony held to welcome 25 additional recruits and five Councilors to ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) held yesterday in Muleeaage.
President Yameen stated that political parties in Maldives carried out their activities without any permits and just a mere notification. He also stated that journalists would be well aware of the extent which the Police used force in political activities.
He repeated his statement that the Government would not infringe on the activities carried out by the parties so long as the activities are carried out within the legal limits and peacefully.
President Yameen added that the State was tasked with the vital responsibility of ensuring that all citizens were safe and as such, the State would enact all measures possible to ensure that it is maintained.
He said that the opposition has sought out to present a different picture to concerned foreign nations. President Yameen called these efforts pointless, citing that the foreign nations were well aware of the internal situation of the country.
President Yameen stated last night the main issues in the country occurred solely due to differentiation in enacting the laws. He assured that his Government would not fail to implement the laws in the country.
As such, he said that in the case where terror charges have been filed against any individual of any caliber, then the Government would seek to complete the legal procedures and implement any rulings issued by any Courts.
