Jumhooree Party (JP) has issued additional stipulations for the Government for the negotiations with the Government.
The Party presented the stipulations to the Government at the start of negotiations with the Government.
Speaking to the press after the first round of negotiations, JP representative for the talks, Kimbidhoo Constituency MP Abdullah Riyaz stated that overall the Party had presented five stipulations for the negotiations.
As such the Party had called on the Government to hold negotiations with all political parties, to establish an independent judiciary, regarding the cases of those political arrestees, to create a secure environment for businesses and to involve other parties when changing laws.
Riyaz stated that JP had no additional demands and that he hoped that the Government would enact the stipulations set by the Party. An additional round of negotiations has been set for next Sunday and Riyaz said that the Government would announce what their decisions were on the stipulations.
Riyaz said that it was vital that all parties were involved in finding a solution for the current political situation in the country. He also said that JP believed that lighter sentences can be sought within legal limits for those arrested on political charges.
He also highlighted on the importance of ensuring a secure business environment in order to secure investor confidence.
Speaking to the press after the meeting, President’s Office Spokesperson Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundhu) stated that in the next session of the talks, President’s decision on the stipulations would be announced.
Riyaz was the lead negotiator from JP side, while Tourism Minister Ahmed Adeeb was the lead negotiator from the Government. Riyaz will also serve as the Spokesperson for JP, while Mundhu will act as the Spokesperson from the State.
President’s Office Spokesperson Ibrahim Muaz Ali reported that the negotiations had been started at 3.00 pm yesterday.
Tourism Minister Ahmed Adeeb, President’s Office Minister Mohamed Hussain Shareef, Housing Minister Mohamed Muizz and Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim will represent the Government in the negotiations.
Hussain Mohamed, Ilham Ahmed, Faisal Naseem and Abdullah Riyaz are representing JP in the negotiations.
