MVR 1.9 million has been budgeted for the waste management projects for ADh. Mahibadhoo, ADh. Maamigilee and L. Fonadhoo.
The agreements for these projects were signed on Thursday.
Under the agreement signed with Renewable Energy Maldives, the company had been tasked with installing a waste incinerator for MVR 500,000. The Company’s Chairman Ibrahim Nashid signed the agreement on behalf of the company.
The project to upgrade the waste management system in L. Fonadhoo was tasked to Gothic Construction Pvt Ltd for MVR 500,000. Abdullah Adam, Managing Director of the company signed the agreement on behalf of Gothic Construction.
The project to create a waste management center in Maamigili was given to Aquamarine Holidays Pvt Ltd for MVR 900,000. The company’s Managing Director Abdu Rahman Mujthaba Adam signed the agreement on behalf of the company.
Environment Ministry has reported that there are many projects in place to tackle the issue of waste in many islands. As such, the Ministry reported that six islands are benefitting from MVR 2.8 million granted for waste management under the PSIP budget. The Ministry also reported that 10 additional waste management programs have been planned under this year’s PSIP budget.
Environment Ministry reported that this year alone MVR 17.5 million will be spent in upgrading the waste management systems in 25 islands. Out of this, work had begun in nine islands and contacts of MVR 6.3 million had been awarded to contractors.
