Proceeds from Nepal Fund will be handed over within two weeks: Red Crescent
Maldivian Red Crescent has stated that the organization was working to convert MVR 2.5 million into US dollars and will hand over the cash to Nepal Red Crescent within two weeks.

The proceeds were collected from the Nepal Relief Fund, which was spearheaded by Maldivian Medical Association, Maldivian media and Red Crescent.
Speaking in a press conference held in TVM Red Crescent Secretary General Abdu Razzaq stated that the drive was extremely successful.

He stated that they had received MVR 1.5 lakhs from six different chapters of Red Crescent across Maldives. An additional MVR 2.6 lakhs came from deposits made to Red Crescent accounts opened in Maldives Islamic Bank and Bank of Maldives. SMS short code contributions netted MVR 66,000 while fund boxes had a total contribution of MVR 2.4 lakhs.

Additionally, anonymous donors had contributed MVR 1.8 lakhs while the media telethon accounted for MVR 1.8 million. Parliament members’ football match netted MVR 2 lakhs and private companies and organizations had contributed over MVR 7 lakhs to the cause. Government employees and institutions had donated over MVR 5 lakhs. Medical association’s doctors donated over MVR 1 lakh to the cause.

Red Crescent stated that they had requested from their Nepali counterparts that these funds be used only to erect temporary housing and to create safer homes for the public.

Red Crescent also stated that they were enforcing measures to ensure that these funds are used with complete transparency and assured that they will be releasing reports every six months.
