State admits Elaa agreement terminated not based on agreement terms
State lawyers have admitted in Court that the settlement agreement made between Villa Group’s Villa Shipping and Trading Company and the state was annulled with no basis made to the agreement clauses.

State lawyer Faena Fayyaz made the statement in the appeal hearings of the case held in High Court yesterday. She stated that the agreement was terminated with no adherence to the contract and added that Villa Group had not breached any clauses in the agreement.

However, Faena stated that the agreement was made on good faith and that as the State believed there was no faith between the two parties, then there was no issue in terminating the agreement.

Additionally, she said that the agreement was compiled following a Supreme Court ruling and that this agreement was an agreement compiled with Ali Ibrahim, the owner of the company which was in charge of managing Elaa and other parties. She added that the agreement was compiled with the stipulation of all such cases against the State should be revoked from the Courts and on the condition that no additional charges were pressed against the State. However, she noted that the co-respondents had failed to adhere to this and that this was the basis for the loss of faith.

Villa Group lawyers stated that there were many dishonest aspects of the case and added that the agreement was compiled on the request of the State. The lawyers noted that the Government had compiled such agreements with two other parties.

The Judges bench had announced that this was the last hearing of the appeal hearings and that in the next hearing the Court would announce the verdict.
