State Trading Organization (STO) has started to fresh stocks of eggs, potatoes and onions from their new shipment brought to Male’ for the month of Ramadan.
Speaking to Miadhu, STO Supermart General Manager Ashan stated that the new shipment was delivered to the warehouse around 12.30 pm yesterday and has been on sale since then.
STO is selling a kilo of onions for MVR 10, while a sack is selling for MVR 220. A kilo of potatoes is selling for MVR 9 and a sack of the produce is selling for MVR 180. A case of eggs is being sold for MVR 270, while a single egg is selling for MVR 1.50.
Ashan stated that egg cases will also be sold from the STO number 6 lot, as well as potatoes and onions.
“Many customers wish to check the quality of the eggs in our shop. This disrupts the shopping for other customers as space is limited in the shop. However, in the warehouse there is no space issue, so customers can check the eggs,” she said.
Ashan said that the company had enough products for the retail market and as such been retailing as well.
She appealed to all market businesses to cooperate with STO on their endeavor to supply the market with products at lower prices. She noted that in the instances STO stocks dip, some businesses raise the price of the products, just because there is a market for the product. Ashan said that this was a grave injustice for the citizens and called to cease such unethical practices.
Ashan said that the present shipment will last for the next 10 days and that STO will import a new shipment prior to that deadline.
STO Executive Director Ibrahim Ziyath and Managing Director Ahmed Shaheer along with other senior officials of the company visited the warehouse yesterday and inquired feedback from the customers.
