Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed has departed town abruptly.
His departure comes at the time the Parliament had amended the age category for Vice President and President and a time when rumors had surfaced that he would be removed from his position soon. It has been reported that he had left for Sri Lanka.
An acquaintance of Dr. Jameel had confirmed his departure. He also noted that Dr. Jameel had not fled and that he would return on Saturday.
Some MPs of ruling PPM had called on Dr. Jameel to resign from his position or face a no confidence vote.
President’s Office Spokesperson Ibrahim Muaz Ali tweeted that Dr. Jameel’s visit abroad was for medical purposes and he had sought out the permission of President prior to his departure, which had been granted.
