PPM Parliamentary Group has kicked off work on the motion to carry out a no confidence vote on Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed.
A MP, well connected to Tourism Minister Ahmed Adeeb, reported that the Party has kicked off work to get the required signatories of 29 MPs for the motion. PPM alone has 44 MPs.
Once a no confidence motion is submitted to the Parliament, a temporary committee will be compiled to oversee the situation. If the committee passes to accept the motion, then the Vice President can be removed with the vote of the two thirds of the Parliament.
The Parliament is composed of 85 MPs. Two thirds of this would amount to 57 MPs. PPM PG Member Ibrahim Shujau reported that the aim of the Party was to instate Tourism Minister Ahmed Adeeb as Vice President before Independence Day on July 26th. He had also called on Dr. Jameel to resign prior to the vote.
