Success of bridge project due to strong ties between leaders: Yongup
Director General Wung Yongup from China’s Ministry of Commerce’s Department of Foreign Assistance has said that the success of the bridge project was based on the strong ties between the leaders of the two nations.

He made the statement speaking in the ceremony held to sign the MOU for the bridge project held between the Government and Chinese Government yesterday in Housing Ministry.

Yongup stated that this project was the largest project China has undertaken in the Maldives. He noted that the success of the project was not dependent on the finances of the project, but the bilateral relations between the two nations.

Yongup noted that the preparations for the bridge project had been underway since the two Presidents met for the first time last year. He also noted that since then the two leaders had met twice.

He added that this was a sign of the economic vision China saw for the world, irrespective of the size and location of that nation, when disbursing aid for development projects. Yongup assured that he and his department would be closely monitoring the bridge projects.
