Male’ Hulhumale’ bridge project MOU signed
MOU agreement has been signed to kick start the bridge project.

The MOU was signed yesterday in a ceremony held in Housing Ministry. Housing Minister Dr. Mohamed Muizz signed the agreement on behalf of the Maldivian government. Director General Wung Yongup from China’s Ministry of Commerce’s Department of Foreign Assistance signed the agreement.

Dr. Muizz stated that feasibility studies were carried out in 10 stages and investigations by borehole drilling has also been successfully carried out. He added that all aspects of the bridge project will be conducted by China and that China will facilitate bridge operations as well.

The bridge will be 1.39 km in length, which will extend to 2 km with approachments on two sides of the bridge. The bridge will be 20.3 meters in width Dr. Muizz said that there will be four lanes dedicated for four wheeled vehicles, with a lane each for pedestrians and bicycles. He also said that the work on the bridge will commence this year, with the work concluding in two years.

Dr. Muizz said that the bridge will be one of the best bridges in the region in terms of structure and had taken into consideration the constraint posed by the airport.
