The biggest newsmaker in the nation is the news that ruling PPM wishes to impeach Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed and instate Tourism Minister Ahmed Adeeb to the position.
Minister Adeeb is also the co-Chair of the President’s Office’s Economic Council. Many of his supporters have taken to social media to voice support for him and overall promotion. They claim that there is not candidate better than Adeeb to take the position.
PPM PG Leader and Vilimale’ Constituency MP Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik had previously stated that the Vice President should be a person who is capable of defending the State, inspite of the challenges facing the Presidency. He also added that the Vice President should be one who is capable of meeting the challenges of the role, with zero hesitation.
The impeachment charges against VP Dr. Jameel was filed to the Parliament with the signatories of 64 Members of Parliament. Many members of the opposition signed the petition. Vote of 57 MPs is required to pass the motion.
Out of the 85 MPs in the Parliament, 78 MPs had also voted in favor of changing the age criteria for Presidents and Vice Presidents.
Therefore, many anticipate that the impeachment motion would be passed just as easily.
