Maldives Islamic University’s Vice Chancellor Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has stated that he intended to serve the nation from a national, religious and educational platforms.
Dr. Shaheem had resigned as Chair of Foreign Relations Committee of Adhaalath Party on Tuesday, after he was tasked with the position in the University.
University Act mandates that any senior position of the Board cannot be filled by an individual who holds a senior position in a political party, even though the individual can remain as a general member of the party. Even though, Dr. Shaheem had resigned from the Party’s prominent political position, he still is a general member of the Party.
Prior to his appointment to the position and after his subsequent resignation as Islamic Minister, Dr. Shaheem had stated that he wished to take a more active role in social and national service than on political platforms. He cited that the he went into the political field in the first place due to the state of the nation.
