STO Managing Director Ahmed Shaheer has stated that STO was more than capable of supplying the whole of the Maldivian market.
Speaking to Miadhu Shaheer stated that STO had in the past run under many names but still the organization had managed to fulfill their aims of serving the market. He added that the Government formed STO to bring in a steady supply of basic goods, without disruptions or dependence on another party and that STO had done so. He also added that STO was prepared for any challenge that faced the company and the economy.
The state had opened an account in the name of ATA and initiated trading in a bid to nationalize the economy from Indian businesses that had a grip on the economy. The initiative was carried out by then Prime Minister Ibrahim Nasir.
