The Maldivian Honorary Consulate General in Germany Gottfried Mücke has passed away in the Maldives. He was 83 at the time of his death.
He was found dead in the beach in Paradise Island resort. Mücke was in Maldives to take part in the Minivan 50 Independence Day celebrations.
Speaking to Miadhu, Paradise Island Resort’s General Manager Qaisar Naseem stated that Mücke was discovered by his room attendants who had
reported that a guest had collapsed in the area. He added that Mücke’s wife was no more than 100 feet away from him, but had assumed that her husband was in the room. Qaisar added that he had informed the Consul’s wife.
Qaisar stated that the deceased was wearing ordinary tennis shoes and that if he had intended to go for a swim, Mücke would not have worn such a pair of shoes.
He added that within five minutes, doctors arrived and had attempted to revive Mücke, to no avail.
According to Qaisar, Mücke loved Maldives and maintained a cordial relationship with all the staff of the resort in his stay.
Foreign Minister Dunya Maumoon noted the long service Mücke had rendered as consul from 1983 onwards and stated that she was profoundly saddened by the untimely death of such a service person.
