President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Qayyoom has given the largest prize to Hassan Saaid, Maldives’ fastest runner and 100 meter gold medal winner of Indian Ocean Island Games.
President Yameen had given prizes to all athletes who had claimed a win for the nation in the Games. As such, Saaid earned MVR 250,000 for the gold in the 100 meter dash and an additional MVR 100,000 for the silver medal in the 200 meter dash. In total, Saaid had won MVR 350,000.
Speaking in the ceremony, Sports Minister Ahmed Zuhoor stated that the wins were made possible due to the importance the Government placed on youth and their development.
Additionally, Vilimale’ MP Ahmed Nihan had stated that he will donate one month’s salary to Saaid to mark his win and contribution to the nation’s sporting history.
