President confers awards to IOIG winners
President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Qayyoom has conferred his awards to the medal winners of the Indian Ocean Island Games.

The prize money was given to the athletes on behalf of the President by Sports Minister Ahmed Zuhoor in President’s Office in a ceremony held yesterday.

President’s Office Spokesperson Ibrahim Muaz Ali stated that athletes who won gold medal in individual sports will be awarded a cash prize of MVR 250,000, the athletes who won silver medal will be awarded a cash prize of MVR 100,000, and the athletes who won bronze medal will be awarded a cash prize of MVR 20,000.

Additionally, each athlete who competed in team sports and won gold medal will be awarded a cash prize of MVR 35,000, athletes who won silver medal in team sports will be awarded a cash prize of MVR 25,000, and those who won bronze medal in their team event will be awarded a cash prize of MVR 15,000.

The Maldivian contingent was welcomed by President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Qayyoom, cabinet ministers and senior state officials.

Speaking in the ceremony, Zuhair noted that this year athletes did well claiming the highest number of medals in the nation’s sporting history. He stated that he hoped that this trend will continue in the future.
