Abdulla Hameed passes away
Al-Usthaz Abdullah Hameed, recipient of Nishan Izzudin honor award, has passed away.

Abdulla Hameed served as the Education Minister and the Atolls Minister during former President Maumoon Abdul Gayooms tenure; and his most recent governmental post was as a Senior Minister. He also served as the Parliament Speaker.

He had headed the Dhivehi Language and History Center and Dhivehi Naadhee. A proficient serviceman of Dhivehi language and had worked extensively to maintain Dhivehi grammar in local magazines and newspapers.

In his tenure as Education Minister, Hameed had pioneered Islamic education and created prayer rooms in schools.

He passed away at the age of 76, following several days of intensive care at Bangalore, India.

Abdullah Hameed is survived by four daughters, seven sons and 23 grandchildren. Prominent lawyers Shaaheen Hameed and Maumoon Hameed as well as Hamdhoon Hameed are his sons.
