FHTS student Aminath Maisha has stated that she was quite satisfied with her win in the FHAM International Culinary Challenge.
She had won the gold in Chicken Hot Cooking category, competing against international chefs in the competition. She was the sole Director Medal winner, while Abdullah Sobah from Sonevafushi claimed four golds.
Speaking to Miadhu, Maisha stated that she has been working in the tourism field for 4 years as a guest relations officer and a receptionist but had been in the culinary field for only six months.
She added that she had only gotten two weeks to prepare but had practiced in the kitchens of Meeru Island resort for three weeks.
Maisha said that she wanted to pursue the field of culinary arts. She said that the most challenging aspect of the challenge was to prepare and plate two dishes in one hour in addition to competing against more experienced chefs. She added that once the tasting was over, most of the feedback was extremely positive and that this was very heartening. She also said that winning the golds and the Director Medal was an unbelievable surprise.
She noted the support and assistance provided by the chefs and instructors. She also lamented the low number of local females working as chefs.
