Maldives Customs Service has marked their 125th anniversary in a special ceremony held last night in Dharubaaruge.
President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Qayyoom was the chief guest of the ceremony. Vice President Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Ghafoor, Parliament Speaker Abdullah Maseeh, Customs Minister Umar Naseer, senior officials of the Government and Customs took part in the ceremony.
In the ceremony, President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Qayyoom inaugurated the housing scheme for Customs staff. He also handed over Customs 125 award for notable individuals from the export import sector.
President Yameen also released the annual publication of the Customs Journal.
Home Minister Umar Naseer handed the honor awards for customs staff and the Customs 125 award to the individuals who had served the Service over the years.
Speaking in the ceremony, Commissioner General of Customs, Abbas Adil Riza stated that the 125th anniversary of Customs fell on the same year as the Golden Jubilee of Independence and therefore, Customs was celebrating this occasion colorfully. He added that the Customs was working to ensure that their services were provided easily for the customers.
