Health Ministry has signed an MOU with two Nepali agencies to train individuals for the health sector.
The MOU’s were signed with the Institute of Medicine, Tribuhan University and Nepal’s National Institute of Medical Sciences and the Government of Maldives.
Speaking in the ceremony after signing the agreements, Minister Irthisham stated that due to the agreement Maldivians will be able to train as doctors, nurses and lab technicians and other relevant fields. She added that the in addition to this, the Ministry will be head hunting for qualified individuals from Nepal for local hospitals and health centers.
She said that Health Ministry was working to ensure that more people were being trained from specialist areas such as nephrology and neurology. Minister Irthisham stated that the Ministry was working to ensure that training placements were sought from institutions that were accepted by the Medical Council.
Minister Irthisham stated that the Government would open applications for training placement.
She noted that presently, 14 students are studying in Nepal and a total of 89 people have been trained since 1988.
