Will not negotiate at the expense of the nation’s independence: President Yameen
President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Qayyoom has stated that the Government will not negotiate or make any decision at the expense of independence and integrity of the nation.

He made the statement delivering the keynote address at the 125th anniversary of Customs held in Dharubaaruge last night.

President Yameen stated that the aims and aspirations of the people are linked to the increase in wealth and provide homes for youth and customs employees. He added that this work will not be carried out by foreigners. President Yameen said that the we are in charge of our affairs and its only through hard work we will be able to achieve national development goals.

President Yameen added that the Government could not accept any issue that would infringe on the nation’s independence, even in the case of business interests.

He noted the vital role played by Customs in developing the economy and added that it was of utmost importance that Customs services are upto modern standards. President Yameen stated that the institute had been successful in this endeavor and thanked the staff and officials of Customs for their work.
