University of the West England’s Vice Chancellor and Resident Professor Steven West has stated that without research and analysis of global businesses and events.
He made the statement speaking in the lecture held Friday night in Vill College on the importance of higher education in economic and social development.
Professor West stated that the world was evolving on a daily basis via technological and other innovations. He added that these changes have to be analyzed and the best outcomes for the nation need to be adapted in order to develop the nation.
He added that it was vital for such development to take place that youth need to be trained.
Professor West stated that the economy was dependent on tourism and that the sector itself is evolving rapidly. As such, changes to the sector and the environment need to be understood and acted on.
West also said that the role of Universities need to be developed. He said that instead of just being teaching, the Universities need to be beacons that show the future options for the future.
He also said that students have to prioritize on serving the nation from their fields of study and not just study for the sake of studying. The lecture mainly highlighted on the importance of an individual’s educational progress.
