Indian Spice Route Challenge 2015 semi-finals held


As part of Celebrations to mark 50 years of India Maldives Diplomatic Relations, a cooking competition for Maldivians is being held in the name of Indian Spice Route Challenge 2015.

Several entries were received in the first round of the Indian Spice Route Challenge 2015 cooking competition out of which the panel of judges, comprising of Ms. PreetiShahare (wife of the High Commissioner of India), Ms. VathsalaSubramaniam (GM Hotel Jen) and Mr. NissamLatheef (Faculty member, FHTS) selected the following 10 participants for the semi-final round:

2. Ms. Fathmath Lathaf
3. Mr. Mohamed Ashraqu
4. Ms. Aishath Zaifa Ahmed
5. Ms. Aminath Samai Adam
6. Mr. Mohamed Nuhad
7. Ms. Aminath Maeysha
8. Ms. Aminath Abdul Rasheed
9. Ms. Aishath Shifa
10. Mr. Naajih Mohamed

Nine out of the above ten contestants participated in a semi-final COOK-OFF challenge, which was held at India Maldives Friendship Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Studies yesterday. The master-chef style semi-final challenge was to prepare an Indian dish given to the contestants 15 minutes before the cook-off.

In a closely fought contest, the judges selected four finalists - Mohamed Ashraq, Aminath Maeysha, Aminath Abdul Rasheed and Aishath Shifa - to participate in the Grand Final at Hotel Jen on September 13.

Mr. Azleen Ahmed, Deputy Minister for Education, who was the Chief Guest for the evening, handed over the prizes to the other semi-finalists, who did not qualify for the finals. Chancellor of MNU Dr. Mohamed Latheef and Indian High Commissioner Rajeev Shahare were also present during the event.

Mr. Azleen congratulated the High Commission of India and the MNU for such an innovative competition in Maldives to promote the talent among youngMaldivians. He said competitions like the Indian Spice Route Challenge and Maldivian Idol would provide opportunity to Maldivians to showcase their skills and talent.

High Commissioner Shahare said that many such events would be held to commemorate the India-Maldives Golden Jubilee anniversary.

Chancellor Dr. Latheef thanked the Govt. of India for its continuous support to the Maldives National University and its institutions.
