Police reported that the lorry driver was a Maldivian and that the driver had reported that he was not aware of the lorry hitting the pole.

Housing Ministry issued a statement last night citing that the base of the post was mounted in the ground with steel and within the property for the safety of the traffic. The statement also said that the road was used for loading and offloading cargo to the STO Warehouse even after the pole was mounted and that no accidents were reported. The pole was decorated as a LED palm tree for Minivan 50 celebrations.

Police have said that the investigation has revealed so far that the driver had said that the lorry did not collide with the pole. Housing Ministry had stated that the lorry had hit the pole, as it had gone over the speed limit.
