Human Rights Commission of the Maldives has called on the Government to work on preventing attacks on citizens.
The Commission made the statement issued on Saturday after lawyer Mahfooz was attacked on Friday.
The statement condemned the senseless attack on the lawyer and called on the Government to investigate the attack and bring the perpetrators to justice. The statement also called on members of public to lend assistance to the investigation process.
HRCM said that such attacks posed threats to the progress of human rights in the country and noted Mahfooz was a lawyer who was working to upholding human rights.
