Consultancy services for the Design of Water Supply facilities in eight islands has been awarded to GreenTech Consultants (Pvt.) Ltd. in association with Grontmij A/S, Development Collaborative Partnership and Optimum Solutions (Pvt). The Consultancy Agreement was signed by Minister Thoriq Ibrahim on behalf of Ministry of Environment and Energy and Director of GreenTech Consultants Diyath Gunawardana. The Ceremony was held at the Asaree Hall, SHE Building.
Speaking in the ceremony, Minister Thoriq stated that clean water provision for all islands was a core priority for the Government and appealed GreenTech to complete the project as soon as possible. He added that he hoped that the project will be in operation in 2017.
Gunawardana stated that the company was extremely clear on the goals of the project and that they will seek to finish the project within the given time frame.
The services to be provided under this assignment include Preparation of Preliminary and Detailed Design and Tender Documents for the Establishment of Water Supply facilities in Ha.Hoarafushi, Hdh.Hanimaadhoo, Sh.Milandhoo, R.Ungoofaaru, Lh.Naifaru, Dh.Kudahuvadhoo, Th.Guraidhoo and Ga.Villingili, Maldives. Apart from this, Design works for the provision of Water Supply facilities in Th.Villufushi and B.Eydhafushi is currently underway. These two Islands are also included under the same project.
The total cost of the Design Consultancy work is MVR 2.59 million and is scheduled to be completed within 06 months of contract signing. The project was scheduled to be financed from the US $50 million grant from OFID, however, the Ministry reported that the Government had passed to self-finance the project, in order to expedite providing clean water to the islands.
