Chinese CCCC Highway Company Limited has been tasked with the survey of the condition of Male’ roads in order to develop the roads to a quality standard.
The MOU was signed Sunday afternoon between Housing Ministry and CCCC Highway Company Limited. Housing Minister Dr. Mohamed Muizz signed the agreement on behalf of the Ministry, while Zhang Zigang signed the agreement on behalf of the Chinese partner.
Speaking in the ceremony, Dr. Muizz stated that under the agreement, CCCC Highway will carry out surveys on the condition of the roads in Male’ and present their findings to the Government. Additionally, the company will conduct surveys on how to control traffic issues as well.
Dr. Muizz stated that the project was a huge project and the company was chosen after an international tender. He noted that CCCC is the company which had designed the Male’-Hulhumale’ bridge and is renowned worldwide. Additionally, the Minister said that the company had designed the 15 km road in Laamu Atoll as well.
Dr. Muizz said that the project is to be completed in 12 months and had cost the Government MVR 4.65 million. He added that once the project was completed the Ministry will be able to conduct the EIA and put the project on tender.
