Vice President Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Ghafoor has stated that the design for the China Maldives Friendship Bride design was not a dream shown to the public but something that will come into fruition.
He made the statement speaking in the ceremony held to unveil the design for the bridge held last night in Raalhugandu area.
Vice President Adeeb stated that the discussion of a bridge, closing the gap between Male’ and Hulhumale’, has been always pandered by former Governments but this was the first time the project had yielded results. He said that this project was pioneered by President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Qayyoom not as a means to just create a bridge, but as an instrument to resolve the major issues facing the nation.
He cited that the bridge will ease many issues such as housing, water and electricity issues and will benefit the entire nation. Vice President Adeeb said that erecting a bridge may not be the most feasible option. However, he said that if the bridge resolves all these issues, which are presently facing greater Male’, then the entire project will become the most feasible project.
He added that President Yameen had attempted the project only after due consideration into the project. As such, he said that now all Hulhumale’ needed was around 14,000 flats with another 25,000 that can be built in the second phase of Hulhumale’.
Vice President Adeeb added that most of the residents of Male’ were living in cramped quarters and said that that was not what the current Government had done.
Adeeb also stressed on the importance of economic stability to ensure societal development and that it was vital to the security of the mega projects of the Government.
