A workshop to endorse Maldives Intended Nationally Determined Contribution (INDC) to the new climate agreement was launched today. The Workshop was inaugurated by Minister of State for Environment and Energy Mr. Abdullahi Majeed.
In his remarks, State Minister Majeed noted that to date, a total of 56 nation states have submitted their INDCs to the UN. He also remarked that Maldives draft INDC outlines the climate action that the country intends to take during the period 2020- 2030, and that it was developed in wide consultation with stakeholders.
State Minister further remarked that Maldives, and under its leadership, the member states of the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS), strive to demonstrate leadership in taking initiative for climate action. Even though AOSIS member states are resource poor, they want to contribute all they can to tackle climate change, he further remarked.
A total of 30 participants representing government, private businesses and civil society participated in today’s Workshop.
