Amal Clooney has described Nasheed’s lawyer Mahfooz Saeed as a “colleague” and said that Mahfooz’s survival from the attack was a miracle.
She said that upon her arrival in the Maldives, she had visited Mahfooz and his family and enquired on his condition. Clooney said that she was aware of the way Mahfooz was followed and attacked him, though she wasn’t aware of the extent of injuries.
Attorney General Mohamed Anil had also condemned the attack and assured that the perpetrators will be brought to justice.
Previously another lawyer, Najeeb, was attacked in a similar method. He had died as a result of his injuries and his killers had confessed to the crime.
