Ministry of Environment and Energy held events to mark this year’s world Ozone Day
As accustomed, Ministry of Environment and Energy held events to mark the International Ozone Day 2015 for the preservation of the ozone layer on 16th September, a day which was proclaimed as such by the resolution adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1994, to honour the Montreal protocol which came to existence in 1987.

A special ceremony was held at Marble Café’ on the occasion, where delegations from government ministries, and ozone related fields were among the attendees.

Speaking at the ceremony Minister of State for Environment and Energy, Mr. Abdul Matheen Mohamed highlighted that the good changes of international diligence towards ozone layer protection are evident today.

In this ceremony, a contract was signed between Ministry of Environment and Energy and Koodoo Fisheries to switch over from HCFCs to ozone free and less GWP alternatives. Also, recovery machines were handed over to beneficiaries in this event. In addition to this, identifiers to identify ozone depleting substances.

At the ceremony, Minister of State also inaugurated the world scout environment badge.
