President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Qayyoom has stated that any actions by any individuals that damage the whole nation is unacceptable.
He made the statement speaking in the ceremony held in Muleeaage, to welcome Councilors who had recently signed to PPM.
President Yameen’s statement was made in reference to the threat of sanctions issued by former President Mohamed Nasheed’s legal team.
Nasheed’s party MDP has been engaged in calls for tourism boycotts to the Maldives, which was temporarily halted when Nasheed and MDP assumed leadership in 2008.
President stated that calling for boycotts and travel bans was not beneficial and that it damaged the nation. He added that the Government will not act unconstitutionally, at the threat of sanctions.
He noted that it was extremely unethical and irresponsible of the opposition to engage in such actions at a time when the Government is only working to bring prosperity to the nation. He also noted that even the opposition has to accept the work carried out by the Government for the betterment of the nation.
