Health Ministry has stated that all the health centers in the islands are equipped with designated vehicles.
Speaking to Miadhu, Health Ministry’s Spokesperson Thasleema stated that as the vehicles had not been serviced in a while, that work was underway. She added that the 53 ambulances ordered from abroad by STO had already been brought to the Maldives. She also said that the 35 ambulances had been sent to the islands previously and 18 more are currently en route to the islands.
Thasleema said that the Ministry was working to ensure that 50 more ambulances can be brought next year, with the Ministry focusing on bringing in paramedic ambulances.
The lack of ambulances is a pressing issue for many health centers. Many centers had previously resorted to using wheel barrows to transport patients. Ministry had vowed to bring an end to this issue.
Currently, 99 health sector related projects have been completed while 27 are currently underway. Health Minister Irthisham Adam had previously stated that all the projects amount to over MVR 318 million.
