We welcome India’s recognition of the government’s economic agenda: VP
Vice President Ahmed Adeeb announced that the Maldivian government welcomes the Indian government’s acceptance of our government’s economic agenda.

He said this while speaking as the chief guest at a ceremony held at Dharubaaruge where cultural events from India took place.

He said that it is both his and President Abdulla Yameen agenda to promote the economy. He added that they want to work together with the Indian government to fulfill the agenda. “We should strive most in economic areas to strengthen the relationship between two counties. Economic Industry is the most important area to increase bilateral relations between two countries. We should work for economic development so that it will benefit the later generations” said Adeeb.

He says that the government welcomes India’s investment in the government’s important economic agendas such as the SEZ investment.

Adeeb went on to say that India is the quickest country to offer help to Maldives in case of disasters. “it is easily observed when we look at the events of November 3rd, or the events of the tsunami in 2004. Its evident event from recent incidents such as the sea swells.” Adeeb said.

Adeeb said that Maldives has continued to cooperate with India in regional and international incidents and that it would continue in the future. He noted that both Maldives and India are situated in strategically important areas in the Indian Ocean and that both countries should make proper use of it.

Adeeb specially noted the help by High Commissioner Rajeev Shahaarey following the events of President Mohamed Nasheeds resignation in 2012.

Adeeb also added that he want the age old bilateral relations between India and Maldives to continue as it presently is.
