Health Minister Irthisham Adam has stated that the discussions were underway to establish a catheterization laboratory and that the Ministry was now looking into finding the most competent partner for the project.
Speaking to press Sunday, Minister Irthisham stated that government was compiling statistics on various costs associated with the project. She said that the National Diagnostic Centre will be established soon.
Minister Irthisham said that the Centre will be opened near IGMH and will be a 25 story building, which will facilitate easier access to the services. She also said that this service will be available to all citizens. Minister noted that atoll hospitals can forward diagnostics and patients to the Centre, which will reduce the costs attached to health care.
She added that an agreement had been signed to supply MRI machines under grant aid. However, as there were some delays in receiving the machines, President Abdullah Yameen had instructed to purchase the MRI machine from state coffers. Minister Irthisham said that the machine had been brought to Male’ last September and the setup and calibration were underway.
Minister Irthisham said that the 11 story building of IGMH was currently in operations even though it had not been formally opened. The flu clinic is being run from the ground floor of the new building.
