Three arrested in connection to blast on Presidential speedboat
Two MNDF personnel and an additional person has been arrested in connection to the blast aboard the Presidential speedboat last Monday.

Sun online reported that among those arrested are individuals who were experts in Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD).

It has been reported to Sun online that one of the arrested was Mohamed Jawaz of Felyiaage, A.A. Feridhoo, who had been serving in the arms and ammunitions department. Sun also reported that Jawaz was extremely skilled in fireworks, well renowned within MNDF for the skill. The other MNDF personnel under arrest is Sergeant Moosa Zameer and had previously worked as a body guard in the MDNF Special Protection Group (SPG). Vnews had reported that the third arrested was an immigration officer.

It has been reported that Jawaz was arrested on arrival from a trip to Sri Lanka. He had been in Sri Lanka from the 27th of last month to the fifth of this month. Sun also reported that police had obtained a search warrant for his residence and had recovered suspicious items from the search.

Police media had refused to release any additional details on the case.

Court had issued remand periods for Jawaz and Zameer last night.

Following the incident, President Yameen had instated a special committee to advise him on security issues, which is composed of three officers from MNDF and Police each. A special team of SPG officers had also been tasked with the President’s security.
