India has assured that they will be providing basic foodstuff to the Maldives.
The decision was arrived on Sunday at the discussions of the Joint Commission established between the two nations.
India has always been providing basic food items at discounted prices, even at times when normal supply had been halted for various reasons. The foodstuff from India is further subsidized, which has greatly benefited the state budget. Additionally, with the subsidies the foodstuff from India is sometimes cheaper than the prices in India.
India has stated that the grants are provided due to the close relationships the two nations enjoy and assured that this will continue in the future.
The general items imported by India is usually expensive due to the lack of a proper trade route between the two nations. Many have expressed concern over this.
