Kaashidhoo Constituency MP Faisal Naseem has stated that there was a section of the population that was actively engaged in defaming Islam and that strict action needed to prevent such actions.
He made the statement speaking in the debate session of the law to criminalize actions that damage national interests.
Faisal said at a time when we are considering banning such actions for the sake of the nation’s economy, we have to act more when such acts were perpetrated against Islam.
He stated that such acts were seen publicly on social media platforms and such defamatory remarks, actions and comments against Islam was deeply concerning. He added that the current situation warrants strict and immediate action.
Faisal added that Islam was an integral part of Maldivian nationalism and preventing defamatory actions against Islam was vital.
