“I trust Maldivian doctors completely”: Dr. Shainee
Fisheries and Agriculture Minister Dr. Mohamed Shainee has stated that he fully trusts local doctors serving in the Maldives.

He made the statement in connection to a question posed by Miadhu regarding the health status of First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim.

Dr. Shainee said that First Lady had sustained seven fractures to her back and that this was no ordinary matter. However, he said that the treatment would be the same whether she was receiving treatment abroad or locally.

“We have to do tests, CT scans, MRI scans. They can be done here. Even if we take her abroad, they will just recommend bed rest,” he said. Dr. Shainee assured that the First Lady was given the best treatment possible and that he had full faith in the local doctors attending to her.

Health Minister Irthisham Adam had said that given the nature of her injuries and having chosen to seek treatment from IGMH, the citizens had been assured that the treatment given at IGMH was of exceptional quality.

Many have commended the President’s decision to seek treatment from here was a revolutionary step in the health sector. Many had also said that this represents a departure from the normal culture where heads of state usually went abroad for even minor treatments.
