Making great progress on investigation: Commission
National Inquiry Commission has stated that the Commission was making great progress into the investigation of the assassination attempt on the President’s life on the 28th of September.

Speaking in the press conference held Tuesday in the President’s Office, Home Minister and the commission's co-chairperson Umar Naseer said that only the Sri Lankan team had submitted their preliminary findings. He said that the Sri Lankan team had around 25 years investigating such explosions.

Minister Umar denied the rumors that the explosion was caused by a faulty air conditioner.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Abdullah Nawaz said that the Sri Lankan investigation had shown that the incident was a deliberate assassination attempt and not an accident. He also added that the team had shared comprehensive details of the case as well. He said that the speedboat was still held as evidence by the investigative team and only commission members had access to the boat.

Minister Umar said that given the pace of the progress, he was assured that they will be able to find the culprits and bring them to justice.

It is expected that the report from FBI will be used in the trial and it is expected that the sample report may take around 45 – 60 days.
