GA. Villingili Constituency MP Saud Hussain has stated that people defending those behind the assassination attempt on the President was a serious issue.
Speaking in TVM Tuesday night, Saud said that as the opposition, defending the perpetrators, was an irresponsible act.
He said that MDP had not filed a no confidence motion against the President when former President Mohamed Nasheed was jailed. However, he said that it was saddening to see that the opposition was aiming to use this opportunity at this critical juncture in the nation’s security, to file such a motion.
Saud said that by trying to file a no confidence motion at this time raises key questions and room to question the motives of the opposition. He said that it can be speculated that after the assassination attempt failed them, they were aiming to revoke the legal rights granted to the President by way of the no confidence vote. He added that such a move was unacceptable.
Saud expressed his confidence that once the case was fully investigated that they will be able to answer all questions regarding the incident.
