Home Minister Umar Naseer has called on eight persons of interest in connection to September 28th assassination attempt on the President to return back to Maldives and to turn themselves in to police custody.
Speaking in a press conference held in President’s Office, Minister Umar implored to the families to turn the suspects in as well.
Minister Umar said that most of the suspects were in Sri Lana and Thailand and as such would not find it difficult to return home. He warned that if they fail to cooperate with the National Inquiry Commission, they will seek Interpol assistance in the matter, as they are suspected of having connections to the assassination attempt.
Mohamed Allam Latheef, Mohamed Hussain, Mohamed Wisham, Ahmed Fathih, Mohamed Aseel Ahmed, Ahmed Ashraf, Hussain Sinan Ahmed and Ishfah Ali are all wanted for questioning with regards to the incident.
Minister Umar said that any information regarding the suspects has to be reported to the Serious and Organized Crime Department hotline 9911099 and Economic Crime Department 9790048. He assured that all the information given to the two departments will be confidential and all informants will be given proper protection.
