Maldivian army is steadfast in their aim like that of the martyrs: Chief of Defense Force
MNDF Major General Ahmed Shiyam has stated that the Maldivian army personnel were steadfast in their determination to protect the nation, like that of those martyrs.
He made the statement speaking in the official ceremony held Tuesday night to mark the Victory Day in Kalhuthukkalaa Koshi.

Shiyam said that the servicemen were determined in their goal and aims. He added that the service personnel were fully trained. Major Shiyam said that in terror attacks of 3rd November 1988, the army personnel were not trained in the art of war. However, he said that the forces had rose to the occasion when required.

Major Shiyam said that they will always revive the memory of Shaheed Hussain Adam, for his valor, sacrifice and courage in the face of insurmountable odds. He added that the army personnel who had exited defense headquarters had left the building with no guarantee that they will be able to come back. He noted that they did not even have basic training.

Major Shiyam added that they had the option to hole themselves in the barracks in spite of the command but had not done so. He also added that the current service personnel does not have the option to shrug off their responsibilities.

Shiyam appealed to the servicemen not to abandon their responsibilities, calling the responsibilities a national duty and obligation. He said that the servicemen had to give up their lives if the situation demanded.
