President’s Office Spokesperson, Ibrahim Muaz Ali, has stated that First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim Did was recovering at home, following her release from Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
She was transferred home, 40 days after receiving treatment at IGMH for the injuries she sustained when the Presidential speedboat was targeted as an assassination attempt on the President.
Speaking to Miadhu, Muaz said that even though she has been transferred home, it will take a while for her to resume her normal routines. He added that the First Lady will seek physiotherapy at home.
Muaz noted that as the First Lady had sustained most of the injuries due to her proximity to the explosion, it will take a while for the damages to heal. He said that she had sustained serious fractures to six or seven areas of her spine.
He added that she had also sustained emotional trauma due to the accident. Muaz said that even though she had been active in the past, it is expected that she will be under significant emotional distress given the nature of the explosion and subsequent long term bed rest.
First Lady Fathimath was one of the most active First Ladies of this nation, taking a senior role in managing PPM. Many have noted that a disruption of her service was a national loss. Following her transfer home, many have expressed joy over social media.
