Vice Chancellor of Islamic University, Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has said that his aim was to ensure that the University was an example to the entire Muslim ummah.
Speaking to media, Dr. Shaheem said that the University was not aimed at just Maldivians, but also towards students from this region as well. He said that he aimed to ensure that international students will be taking part in the Masters and PhD level programs carried out in the University in the next two years.
He added that the University will be offering placements for Masters Programs next year and that his key goal was to seek PhD graduates to teach the Masters programs.
Dr. Shaheem said that he was in negotiations with Al Azhar University in Egypt for such PhD candidates. He also said that he was seeking Foreign Ministry assistance for the purpose as well. He revealed that he had been in discussions with the Egyptian Ambassador and Saudi Education Minister regarding the matter.
Vice Chancellor Dr. Shaheem said that a five member Saudi mission is already active in the University. He also said that the five members delivered their lectures in Arabic and added that some of the Masters programs will be delivered in Arabic. Dr. Shaheem noted that religious modules of the PhD program will be taught in Arabic. He also noted that the University wished to bring in lecturers conversing in other languages, from Saudi Arabia.
He said that the aim of the University was to start Masters programs, while PhD programs can be started in 2018.
Dr. Shaheem said that he had requested the President to lease land from Hulhumale’ to construct the main premises of the University. He also said that he hoped that the President will finalize a decision as soon as possible.
