Government recants state of emergency
The state of emergency declared nationwide on 4th of November has been recanted effective from 5pm Tuesday, 10th of November.

Minister of Law and Gender and Attorney General Mohamed Anil announced the declaration issued by the President. The declaration was announced in President’s Office. The declaration stated that security personnel has been successful in addressing the issues that had initially warranted a state of emergency.

As such, Anil said that security forces had made significant successes in identifying those who had perpetrated the assassination attempt on the President, the IED near Muleeaage and the discovery of weapons in two areas of the country.

AG Anil added that the President had taken into account the losses the nation had faced since the state of emergency had been declared, especially the potential losses to the tourism sector and appeals by many to recant the state of emergency.

Anil thanked the public for their patience and cooperation during the situation on behalf of the President. He added that the security of the nation and the public is still of paramount importance, even though the state of emergency had been recanted.

Anil concluded by assuring the public the President will seek to maintain law and order and protect the rights of the public.
