Maldives takes part in “Islamic Finance Meeting Global Aspirations”
A Maldivian delegation has taken part in the “Islamic Finance Meeting Global Aspirations” on 11th of this month in Kuwait.
The meeting was opened by Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabaah Al Ahmed Al Jabir Al Sabah. The Maldivian delegation was led by State Minister for Finance and Treasury Dr. Aishath Muneera and Deputy Minister Abdul Ghafoor.

The Maldivian delegation took part in additional meetings with delegates from Kuwait Fund, IMF and Finance Ministers of various nations.

Finance Ministry has been working to establish the “Maldives Centre for Islamic Finance”. It has been confirmed to Miadhu that President Yameen had already issued the declaration for it. President Yameen had previously said that the Government will work to ensure that Maldives will become a regional hub for Islamic finance. As such, finances for the initiative has been included in next year’s budget.

Islamic finance has been on the rise in the country, with the major banks offering Islamic friendly options to customers.
