The state’s Privatization and Corporatization Board has stated that the actions committed by MMPRC were acts of corruption.
Speaking in the Financial Committee’s session on Sunday, the Board’s President, Mohamed Nizar said that theft can only be discovered when an internal audit is carried out on the suspected companies.
Kulhudhuffushi MP Abdul Ghafoor had alleged that over MVR 2.5 billion has not been claimed by the Government for the sale of 54 islands. He said that such instances occur only when those in responsible positions fail to fulfil their mandate.
Tourism Minister Moosa Zameer said that based on the existing documentation, it can be seen that some of the islands were sold with an advance of 20%. He added that the Government was in the process of investigating the claims. He also added that the Government was working to ensure that the amounts owed to the state can be reclaimed.
